WESTFIELD 2-5 BOSHAM

After last weeks, last gasp equaliser the Westies entertained last seasons champions Bosham, on a warm Septembers afternoon this clash certainly got people interested, played in front of the biggest crowd of the season so far Westfield started well with Regan & Slav partnering the ever present Callum upfront they were quickly into there stride and should have taken the lead, some good work in midfield from Jake Adams and a lovely through ball from Al Mac, Stoyanov raced clear, unfortunately the finish didn’t match the build up as Slav tried to lob to keeper only for the ball to land about a foot infront of him and roll safely to the Bosham keeper. On that moment the momentum swung into Bosham’s favour and they took full advantage, lovely work down the left hand side from the dangerous Ryan Coombes ended with a deep cross to the back post that was misjudged by the returning Joe Dicken and 16 year old William Lewis hit a crisp strike past stand in keeper Jack Stapley, 1-0 and in truth in the next 15 minutes Bosham could have been out of sight as the Westfield box was being bombarded time and time again, only the good defending of Winter, Ramsay, Dicken & Durrant kept the Champions at bay from inflicting further damage. Just as it seemed the Westies has gained a little control back on matters, Bosham struck again, another costly misjudged header from Dicken was punished by a cool finish from Coker into the bottom left hand corner. 2-0. The Westies huffed and puffed but finally managed to get a foothold in the game as Regan won a free kick on the right hand side, he stepped up and delivered a lovely ball which took a slight deflection off a Bosham defender and into the far corner, it would probably go to the dubious goal panel but as we don’t have one Regan can have his 3rd goal of the season. Like last week Joy was  short lived as almost straight from kick off Bosham scored again, a high looping cross from Coombes was punched straight into the air by Stapley and on hand again to profit was Coker with a header from 6 yards personally signed, sealed and delivered by our very own Gaffer.

Half time

Westfield 1-3 Bosham

Westfield were out early for the second half with a sub and a change of formation, switching  to 442 and Frazer Discala replacing Slav Stoyanov. Westfield started brightly and pushed Bosham back, a succession of corners ensued but good defending and the keepers ability to claim crosses kept Westfield at an arms length, the tie was pretty much sealed on 60 minutes as the defence was breached again, a slide rule pass between Ramsay and Winter was duly collected by Coker who bent the ball easily around the onrushing Stapley to collect his hat-trick, footballs a simple game proved by Coker, 3 chances 3 goals and a very assured performance by the big number 9, Coker is very much in the Andy Carroll mould but with an end product. Somehow this kicked Westfield into life and they pinned Bosham back playing some nice football and looking dangerous from set pieces, the deserved 2nd would come from The head of Callum as the two Smith brothers combined, Regan delivering a lovely cross for Callum to rise highest and plant into the roof of the net. Was it game on?. Another change of formation and a couple more subs with Kingsley Parsons and Joe Page replacing Dom Mcgurk and Joe Dicken and an attacking switch to 3-4-3 should have bought the Westies back to within a goal, Regan got the back edge of the box beat his defender and rounded the keeper for what looked like a tap in only for the fantastic goal line block by Boshams captain who managed to divert the ball out for a corner, from the corner Westfield certainly should have been back to 4-3 a combination of headers in the 6 yard box diverted the ball goal-wards and from clearly inside the goal and almost touching the net a Bosham player hooked clear, unfortunately the linesman was out of position and the goal wasn’t given much to the disgust of the Westfield players and Management team. From here on in heads dropped and Bosham controlled the play capping a good day for the champions with a fifth goal from the head of Westfield defender Kingsley Parsons, a ball swung into the box was expertly planted past Stapley in goal and a deserved win for Bosham, Westfield didn’t deserve anything from the game that was controlled by the Bosham midfield and with the scoring prowess of Coker they again could be looking to add the title to there honours board. Frazer Discala done well on return and has defiantly put himself in contention for the trip to Alfold, another mention to the tireless midfield running from the Yellows, they battled on and tried to make it difficult for Bosham but in truth to many had off days and that gets punished against good sides.
