ALFOLD 2 - 1 WESTFIELD

Westies headed to a happy hunting ground Saturday looking to bounce back from the disappointing display at home to Bosham last weekend, Alfold have started the season well and still had the 5 goal quarter final hero in Dan Hallett in there ranks. The pitch was in perfect condition and weather set fair for what was seen as a top 6 match up.

Westfield started brightly with some nice interchange in midfield and the opening goal came curtesy of a lovely weighted ball through from Cochrane and was finished expertly by goal machine Callum Smith under the enrushing keeper.. Alfold grew into the the game and had a lot of possession and should have been level on a few occasions, corner after corner was cleared by the back line, stand in keeper Adams was having a brilliant game in goal making a couple of cracking saves to keep the Westies infront.

Half time

Alfold 0-1 Westfield

A few alterations in formation at half time saw Westfield get some control back in the game. The first talking point of second half would see Westfield down to 10 men as Zak Hurst received his second yellow for kicking the ball away, it was a harsh decision as he seemed to have made the pass just as the referee blew for a foul. This was to be the first of many questionable decisions the referee would make, the red seemed to galvanise the Yellows and they thought they had gone two infront a couple of minutes later as Callum raced onto a ball forward and finished via the left hand post only for the whistle to go and a free kick be awarded to Westfield 40 yards from goal, this went against everything the referee had done before as advantage had been played well during the game. Again Westfield kept coming and should have had a stonewall penalty Ramsay controlled a long ball through rounded the keeper who clipped his heels but again the referee would be Centre of attention as he awarded a goalkick rather than an obviously penalty. Alfold were starting to take control with Westfield tiring, at this point Westfields attacks were on the counter only and this nearly produced a fantastic goal as Regan Smith Turned his defender inside out and went at goal, the finish the only part that let him down. The last of the controversial decisions was with 10 minutes to play as Regan was hacked down from behind clearly inside the box only for the referee to award a free kick 5 yards outside the box, again much to the bemusement of the Westfield bench. The inevitable would happen as Alfold equalised with a well worked move down the right a finished inside the 6 yard box with 5 minutes to go and Alfold would grab the win with a couple to play as again a low ball into the box was tapped Home at the back stick, to be fair to Alfold they kept going and forcing the Westies back and got reward in the final moments. Unfortunately we also received another red in the final Moments with joe page speaking out of line and getting his marching orders.
